Pets taken in stolen vehicle recovered, returned to owner, police say

(FOX40.COM) — A dog and a cat that were taken in a stolen vehicle were safely returned to their owner on Tuesday, according to the Fairfield Police Department.

Police said officers responded to reports of a stolen car around 1 p.m. in the area of Travis Boulevard and eastbound I-80.

It was also reported that there was “precious cargo,” a cat and a dog, inside the vehicle, that the owner would want returned.

The car was found in Travis in the area of North Texas Street, where a high-risk stop was conducted, and the occupants were removed without incident, police said.

FPD arrested the driver, 44-year-old Heather Mercado, who was booked into Solano County Jail.

The pets and the car were reunited with their owners.
